For the Martinelli Luce Contest in 2022, I designed Huma, a smart modular lighting system that combines artistic elegance with practical functionality. Its adaptable design allows it to seamlessly integrate into various environments, whether as a striking centerpiece in a large room or as individual, customizable components. Huma’s unique flexibility lies in its ability to transform based on the user’s needs, offering a tailored lighting experience while maintaining its sleek, minimalist aesthetic.
The system’s modularity is one of its greatest strengths. Larger vertical pieces can rotate up to 90 degrees, allowing them to function as standalone elements, while smaller lamps can be repurposed as floor or desk lights, offering flexibility for various settings and needs.
App Design
Since Huma is a smart lighting system, it also features a dedicated application that I designed. Through this app, users can select any individual component from the main screen and access its settings. They can customize the color, gradient, and even the pattern of the light. This added layer of control enhances the system’s versatility, making this system not only a functional lighting solution but also an interactive design experience.
The modular components are versatile, offering focused or ambient lighting and adjustable rotation for precise direction.
